These photos are from the March of Dimes subway excursion to Coney Island. The excursion, entitled "Sunset Over Stillwell" went round trip from 59 St. Columbus Circle to the new Coney Island Stillwell Terminal. The trip was scheduled in the evening in the hopes of seeing the sun set over Manhattan as we headed down the BMT EL to Stillwell, but alas the rainy weather did not cooperate. The trip covered most of the B, D, & F lines, and the consist was made up of R1-R9 series cars, some of the earliest cars the city purchased for the IND lines.
